Even though there were near blizzard conditions and the roads were bad, we had a blast in Middletown, Indiana. The girls and the mothers weren’t stopped by mere snow. They both brought their “A” game for their respective fashion shows! Thanks ladies. We can’t wait to come back to see you!
Peace,
The Secret Keeper Girl Team
5 commentsNashville, Tennessee: Wow! What a Story!
Girls we have the pictures ready to go!!!!
We had so much fun in Nashville at Christ Presbyterian Church. The most important part of the evening happened at the end of the show when girls and mothers decided to make the biggest decision of their lives, accepting Jesus Christ! This story came to us through the SKG website just hours after the event from a mom named Amanda who drove in from Clarksville with a load of moms and daughters. It says it all…
4 comments“Last night we loaded several of our young ladies and their moms on to our church’s youth bus, which I have now indelicately christened the Big Brown Turd. Please excuse the crassness of the name but I assure you, it is a fitting title. The excitement of our outing overshadowed her ugly brown paint and the somewhat concerning noises that were escaping out from under her hood. We confidently set off for Secret Keeper Girl!
Our first clue that something was amiss was the new noise that drowned out the older ones we had grown comfortable with. The second clue was the smell…you know the “something-is-wrong-with-this-vehicle-but-I’m-a-girl-so-I-don’t-know-what-it-is” smell. Muttering silent prayers under our breaths we exited the interstate only to discover that the BBT had a major problem with stopping. Our driver, Tricia, did her best to force the BBT into submission by standing on her brake pedals while the rest of us mommies continued our silent prayers, “Please God let us stop, Please God let us stop, PLEASE GOD LET US STOP!”. HE was faithful and the BBT stopped where she gave one final odd sounding rev of her engine and then yelled BOOM! We evacuated the girls to the sidewalk. After calling the men folk from our church and receiving their helpful advice (that the bus probably should have never left Clarksville. Duh!), we starting making phone calls and found that the Lord had foreseen our “problem” and had arranged for plenty of our friends to be also on their way to Secret Keeper Girl with room in their Super Mom Mini-Vans.
With teary eyes and hungry tummies our little Secret Keepers piled into the different vehicles. We arrived late at the event. With nowhere to sit, we climbed into the balcony a bit frazzled and a lot hungry. As the evening continued to unfold before us it became more and more obvious that our Lord was not going to let a BBT take away from His miracle. Our Secret Keepers had a great time and later on, a much needed Happy Meal. But the big miracle, that leaves no doubt of God’s presence, is that four of our Secret Keepers gave their hearts to Jesus that night! And that is worth any dumb ole’ stinky bus in the end.
P.S. In case you are curious, the BBT was towed back to Clarksville!
Big News: Bye, Bye Bratz!
Posted by Dannah Gresh, Creator of Secret Keeper Girl
The news came to me today from my dear on-line bookstore manager, Nancy: Bratz Dolls are out! Not that they’re still not beloved by tweens (much to my chagrin), but a December federal court ruling has banned MGA Entertainment from making and selling all 40 dolls in the Bratz line. The decision comes after a four-year battle that MGA had with Mattel, maker of Barbie. A jury found that Bratz designer Carter Bryant developed the concept for the dolls while working for Mattel.
This delights my heart!
As I’ve reported often at live events, parenting seminars and even on this blog, the American Psychological Association has criticized the dolls for sending an unhealthy message to girls. (Oh, is that an understatement!) “Bratz dolls are marketed in bikinis, sitting in a hot tub, mixing drinks,” an APA report said. “Bratz dolls come dress in sexualized clothing such as miniskirts, fishnet stockings and feather boas.”
The thought occured to me today that God is jealous for his little girls. He will find any loophole to protect them. While I’m certain that Mattel will appeal this decision if they can and that someone will find other ways to exploit this lucrative market, I am grateful for yet one more opportunity to remind you not to buy Bratz dolls.
I don’t like to be negative, but I do like to be informative. So, if you have the same concern that I have about the kinds of things you expose your child to, I have a great alternative! Check out Groovy Girls for a line-up of adorable, funky and trendy dolls.

It was great to be in Santa Clarita! After all the traffic on Friday night, meeting everyone was such a treat. We loved seeing the moms and daughters compete with everything they had. I thought we would blow the roof off the place. The mother’s did a great job hamming it up and the girls in the fashion show were DA BOMB!
Here is a poem written by a new Secret Keeper Girl, Alyse, at school today.
The girls see things in magazines
They think they must look good
But Jesus Christ made you unique
This must be understood!
Don’t worry ’bout your looks because
you’re wonderfully made
from God above who loves you much
He’ll always be your shade.
Thanks for that beautiful poem Alyse!
Peace and love from the SKG Team “
” 3 commentsUSA Today/Today Show: “It’s Cool To Be A Tween!”
As I sat sipping my Jasmine Tea at a little French Bistro just outside of San Diego, I read my free copy of USA Today provided by The Comfort Inn on Wednesday, February 4th. I was delighted to see the headline, “It’s Cooler Than Ever To Be A Tween, But Is Childhood Lost?” I tore through the pages to get to the article. I could not wait to read what new things there were to learn about how our cultures’ pressure to make our kids grow up fast should be alarming. (As the headline claimed.) If you read the article or saw the Today coverage, I hope that you read between the lines. Listen to me! The article was a big hats off to the new freedoms that tweens experience like their own cool fashions, television programming, and technology aimed at them. (There was the delightful nod to “first girls” Sasha and Malia Obama which was delightful to me because they seem to be two very grounded, age-appropriate young women.) But the article was tremendously lacking. It failed to deliver on the question it posed in the title. ARE our tweens losing their childhood? YES! Oh, yes! And the statistics say that it’s hurting them terribly, by you’d never know that based on this article. It was yet another example of how our media is normalizing the pressure for our little girls to grow up too fast. Consider this! The things being marketed to our girls today include make-up, mini-skirts, sexy underwear, boy-craziness and overall mature line-up. They started heavily marketing these kinds of things to our kids about five years ago through 13-year-old celebrity icons like Miley Cyrus. (Who I truly do love, but I don’t love that she’s used to target little girls with a passion for fashion and boys.) Here’s something mind boggling. Did you know that when our American culture first found the gold pot for selling these products, they used a woman whose name and face you know. Marilyn Monroe! Do you know how old she was when she was at the height of her status? Nearly 30! Are our kids growing up too fast. You bet!
