“Shop ‘Til You Drop”
As many of you SKG moms know we have a petition with over 11,000 signatures to send to the fashion industry asking them to read the findings of an American Psychological Association report on the Sexualization of Girls. We are trying to get this powerful message across to the fashion industry that women want to purchase age-appropriate clothing for our girls! Are you with me?? Then we need YOUR HELP!
Visit our Bod Squad Petition fan page on Facebook and “share” it with all your friends. After you do this, leave a comment for a chance to win a Christmas bundle of all her books valued at over $160! This will include all of the Secret Keeper Girl products, all of the books for teens including “And the Bride Wore White” and “Lies Young Women Believe” and a few books for moms! We’ll randomly select a winner on October 16th!
SKG is feeling more than ‘OK’ in Tulsa!
Although I was slightly disappointed that I did not see an armadillo in Oklahoma, I was BLOWN AWAY by you all at our SKG event on Saturday! This was our biggest event so far this tour, and yes my ears are still ringing from the mother-daughter scream off. Just so you have an idea as to how big this event was, I will be posting Pics soon!!
I know this may sound cliche, but I met some of the most genuine and caring mothers and daughters in a matter of 10 hours than ever before! From our lovely volunteers (special shoutout to Dree Hogue and her daughter Ashton!) to the families I was able to talk to after the event, I was astounded by the love that just oozed from you all! Another cool thing I saw was a group of girls wearing these black tee-shirts that said “He is wild about me” in crazy hot-pink zebra font with a verse from Song of Soloman on the back. They all came together as a church Bible study group and had those shirts specially made- I love how creative all our SKG girls are!!
WHAT ABOUT YOU?!
What is a creative idea that you have either used or want to use with a Secret Keeper Girl small group? Cool Tee-shirts? Fun outtings? Your favorite song? I keep hearing great ideas at each event we go to, and I think its time we share them with each other!!
2 commentsThoughts about Barbie….
Posted by Cali Galloway, Secret Keeper Girl Intern
This week I received an email inquiring about the Barbie statistics that are used in our Secret Keeper Girl Event. Looking around at the different websites really got me to thinking about all the different opinions that are floating around about Barbie. One statistic that stuck out to me was the fact that Academics from the University of South Australia suggest the likelihood of a woman having Barbie’s body shape is one in 100,000. I was always under the impression that if Barbie were to be “life-size” she would not even be able to function, when really she could in fact function she would just not be healthy. At first I thought it was a good thing that Barbie’s figure wasn’t as horrible as I had thought, but then I realized that the fact that her dimensions actually could happen were even more disturbing!
There are so many women and girls that hear of or see women with abnormally thin bodies and think they should be able to attain that body as well. The fact is “life-size Barbie” can be real, but she is completely unhealthy! BBC News Magazine on March 6, 2009 in its article What would a real life Barbie look like? explains that “If Barbie were life size she would lack the 17 to 22% body fat required for a woman to menstruate. So again, not an unachievable figure, but certainly not a healthy one.” High profile women in the media that are abnormally thin are only giving false hope and false ideas of what our bodies should look like. On the TV screen they look flawless and skinny, but up close and personal they are unhealthy and TOO thin! Since when does looking unhealthy and having a skeleton figure become the way to look?! No matter what Barbie tells me I should look like I personally want to look healthy and full of life!

93 commentsSKG stops in St. Louis, MO!
Grace Church was the home of our fun/fantastic/fabulous SKG event on Friday! The first thing that stuck out to me was our first ever ALL MALE balloon volunteer crew- they could have been eating pizza but instead they braved the often scary and loud world of balloon-making and crafted some of our finest balloon towers!
And for this event’s pictures, my theme is “Peace, Love and Happiness”. One or more of these words came to my mind when looking at each of these great pics: I saw lots of love in the eyes of moms as they prayed over their daughters, peace in the knowledge that we are BEAUTIFUL in our uniqueness, and happiness in the smiles of friends :). Try and guess which word I was thinking of as you look through them!
Thanks again to everyone in Maryland Heights to came out and made the event such a great time!!
No commentsSKG Event in Bowie, MD!!
Hello
This past Saturday we spent a fun-filled night at
We had some amazing volunteers in
But to me, the coolest part of the night was the fact that 15 GIRLS made decisions to invite Jesus into their hearts. I cannot even imagine the party that was taking place in heaven rejoicing for these precious girls!! It just makes me smile thinking about it
And I think it is time to hear from you! Any moms, daughters or mentors, what are some of your great memories that you have made in either Bowie or one of our other events this fall? Let’s hear about how God has used a Secret Keeper Girl event in your life recently!!
Santa Barbara Girls Wowed!
No one is sure exactly what moment created this look-of-”wow” in one of the Secret Keeper Girls attending the Santa Barbara event, but it pretty much sums up the night! Photog Rob Laskin caught the moment. He was one of the few boys allowed into the event driven by pure estrogen. His photos of the night are so fantastic that we want to present just a few in large formate rather than our normal gallery-style. Check them out! A definite highlight of the night was Dannah Gresh sharing the Monkey Story from the Secret Keeper Girl Eight Great Dates on True Beauty and Modesty. Our scientist was especially demonstrative. What do you think?
We see a future in acting. One mom and her ten year old daughter caught wind of the event from a facebook posting by Dannah Gresh earlier in the day and drove in from San Diego. She said the four hour trip was well worth it. Her daughter got to help lead worship. Check out Suzy Wiebel and others joining in.
Thanks for a great night Santa Barbara!
