skgfashion-punklook.jpg

We are giving away two of our Secret Keeper Girl stage outfits just in time for Christmas. You could have this week’s outfit—the Punk Look—, and a special hand-written note from Secret Keeper Girl founder Dannah Gresh under your tree! This size 12 fashion-show outfit navigates through a couple of critical Secret Keeper Girl danger zones—the mini skirt and the punk look. The punk look went goth this fall with lots of skulls and crossbones. Since a Secret Keeper Girl loves Jesus, she represents life. So, we vote “no” to darkness and skulls and crossbones. Instead, try bright pink with a touch of black and other funky symbols. We also solved the mini-skirt problem with a pair of this season’s trend—imprinted leggings. This week’s winner will receive a white t-shirt, lime green “peace” leggings, plaid mini skirt, black jacket and hot pink scarf. How do you get a chance to win this random giveaway? Just tell us your favorite mother/daughter memory from 2009! Come back Wednesday, December 9th to see if you are the winner and to find out what outfit we’ll give away next!

Love the outfit and love your ministry…visited the Secret Keeper girl tour in State College a few months ago. My girls and I were so touched…what a special and fun night!

With 5 daughters, it is hard to think of just one moment! I have been asking the Lord to give me insight into each of my girls personalities. I took my 11 year old shopping. We talked and laughed and really enjoyed one on one momma/daughter time. That doesn’t always happen in our house full of 5 girls. :)

I have one 11year old daughter and she brings me such joy. I can’t really think of one specific special time this year that we had, we have had so many. I love that she listens every night to her SKG cd. We lay in bed at night and just share our hearts. Everywhere we go she is always talking to new people and sparking up conversations. We went on an Alaskan cruise this year and she makes everyone smile, so I would think that is what is really special to me is she really loves people.

I have 3 girls and am always looking for ways to spend time with them individually. It’s hard, with my working and them all in school. This year, my work hours on Fridays were cut back, and I was very upset about the less income. However, each Friday that I have not been working, I have gone to my daughter’s school and eaten lunch with them in the cafeteria. This is a solid 25 minutes of just me/them time that I never had before. Yes, the smaller income has been a struggle, but the time with each of my daughters has been a blessing in disguise and an answer to prayer!

My favorite memory of 2009 is broad. It’s made up of many little things all a part of watching my oldest girl begin to really show her love for Jesus. We all took part in the first annual Bible Bee, and it was a joy to watch her tuck God’s word in her heart!!

  7. Michelle December 1st, 2009 10:27 am

I have one daughter who is almost 11 and our favorite mother daughter moment from this last year would have to be our evening spent at the Secret Keeper girl tour in Macon, Georgia with another mom and daughter who have been our friends since before the girls were born! We had such a blast, and the time of praying over the girls was so special, we will never forget it. We have been blessed by this ministry so much, with the Secret Keeper girl dates for mom and daughter and this event and the girls’ books, we love SKG!! :)

My favorite mother daughter memory this year was when my step-daughter and I went to dinner, to see a Cirque show and walked around down town Cleveland for the after noon. we shopped, had Starbucks and caught an amazing show. We dressed up and had a night out on the town. There are 4 kids in our family so this was a wonderful treat for a 13 year old girl and for me!

  9. Michelle Upton December 1st, 2009 10:37 am

My daughter would love this outfit! She wants to dress wildly but I have to daily encourage her to dress modestly like God wants her to dress. We fight the culture on a daily basis and I know she would LOVE this outfit!

  10. Judi December 1st, 2009 10:39 am

Nice to know that fashion can still be fashionable and cover up everything. What a cute outfit! My 11 years old would love that! Thank you for ALL that you do to help girls everywhere keep their self esteem high.

Well, after 12+ years of marriage, 4 miscarriages, and 2 of the most beautiful girls I could ever dream of, both inside and out!!! I have the proverbial ‘let myself go’ syndrome and a while ago, I dressed up for a work event and I came down the stairs and both my girls looked at me and said “mom, you look so pretty” Took my breath away!! I am so involved with ministry, family, work and life in general, I don’t think I am pretty any more (I need to reread your book!!!) and to hear such sweet things from my girls (9 and 6) brought such joy to my spirit!! I thank God for such wonderful little women and a wonderfully Godly man!!

  12. Eileen Mendoza December 1st, 2009 10:47 am

I love the outfit and what you do for all these young girls. My daughter and I attended one of your events in Tulsa, OK and really enjoyed the special evening together. I know my daughter would love to get the outfit under the tree for Christmas. Have a blessed day!

I have three daughters and each of them are very different. Finding activities that they all enjoy isn’t easy but this past weekend we found an activity that everyone enjoyed very much..we made no sew fleece blankets. The girls absolutely loved picking out the material, cutting the fabric, and creating their very own masterpiece. We had a great time listening to Christmas music and talking while we created. It was a very special time for us all. Now they can’t wait to make more for Christmas gifts.

  14. Michelle December 1st, 2009 10:51 am

I have a wonderful daughter, we like so many families are having rough times, and yet the excitement she has about Christmas is to give. I am thankful that I have a little girl with a giving heart. This outfit would be a wonderful thank you to her, for I can not a ford to give gifts this year, we have talked as a family and they know that right now our gift is being together and having a home.
Thank you for letting me share.

My 11 year old daughter and I had a great time together during our Shop ’til you Drop outing. We made purchases at the Land’s End store at Sears and GapKids and left notes from my daughter with the sales associates thanking them for helping her be a Secret Keeper girl. We have had a very financially difficult year, but decided it was an important opportunity for my daughter and I to step out and “speak” up and shop together like we haven’t done in a long time. Thanks for encouraging us, Dannah!

My daughter Delaney and I like to have a girls weekend. Here we rent movies, go shopping, do hair, makeup etc. Sunday morning we especially dress up really nice and then go to church then go out for lunch. Throughout the year she is a constant reminder and joy to me of God’s love. At the age of 8 she seems so wise beyond her years. She has no shame of talking to anybody in the store or wherever we are and become friends and as “do you love Jesus?” Each day is a blessing and I am greatful for each Mother/daughter moment we have.

  17. Kathy Ray December 1st, 2009 10:59 am

The most special mom/daughter time my daughter and I had this year was spending the weekend at the beach for her birthday. We had fun painting t-shirts and shopping. Very relaxing, no chores, no homework and no school projects.

  18. Jamie Young December 1st, 2009 11:02 am

My favorite mother/daughter moment for the past year would have to be seeing my 10 year old daughter graduate from her elementary kids program at our church. While anxious about her moving up into the junior high program, I was proud to participate in the graduation ceremony and hear her pastor speak so highly of her and the young woman she has become. I realized at that moment, that our world as we know it is changing and that my little girl is growing up so fast. I look forward to the future but in those moments wanted to hold on to the past. Seeing her surrounded by her christian peers and living her life for Christ made me so thankful for her life and that God gave her to me to take care of.

  19. Kim Cuebas December 1st, 2009 11:11 am

My daughter Amy and I were able to attend the Secret Keeper Girl tour in New Philadelphia, Ohio. We had a great time but more importantly my daughter has brought up many issues that were touched on that night. She is learning to be happy with who she is. On November 10th I found her very distressed in her room. With a little prompting she admitted she didn’t have Jesus in her heart and it made her sad. After a short discussion to be sure she knew what it meant to accept Jesus as her personal Saviour I asked if she would like to pray for forgiveness of sin through Christ our Lord and she said yes. We did and tears of joy are streaming down my face right now. This is my favorite mother/daughter memory.

  20. Rebecca December 1st, 2009 11:20 am

I honestly must say that the most special memory that I have was attending the Secret Keeper Girl Tour with my then 8 year old (9 now). It probably sounds like a staged answer but it’s not. It was such a wonderful time for just the two of us. I saw her for who she is…God’s child trying to grow up in a world that wants her to do so too quickly. I LOVED the message sent to her. I could tell that she was really listening and it made an impression. We bought the “date night” kit and I’ve been waiting for that special time to begin it with her. I’m also looking ahead to my youngest daughter as she’ll turn 8 soon. Thank you for the message you are portraying. It IS making a difference! God bless you!

  21. Jen December 1st, 2009 11:24 am

One of our very precious moments was attending the Secret Keeper Girl tour at Harvest Bible Chapel in April. It was an awesome evening of fun and cohesiveness with my daughter.J Knowing God was being glorified was the topper.

  22. Kathy Rose December 1st, 2009 11:25 am

I am a mother of 5, (2 daughters 3 boys) I had the priviledge of being at the secret keeper girl event in Tulsa with my two daughters. It is really hard to choose just one special time with my girls but I think that probably going to their soccer games. We have four children playing soccer and often my husband and I are heading in different directions. Since he coaches one of the boys that plays, I often get to take the girls to their games. I enjoy the excitement before the game and then reviewing the plays on the way home. Win or loose.

  23. Susan December 1st, 2009 11:56 am

My favorite moments with my girls are when I am spending time with one of them alone. I really get to see the wonderful people that they are without the sister dynamic getting in the way. We tell each other stories about our day and I get more honest responses from each of them. I also love doing fun things that the both of them enjoy like playing board games or decorating the Christmas tree. That’s just plain entertainment for all three of us.

  24. Tina Greene December 1st, 2009 12:12 pm

I have three children, one daughter and my favorite time is when we read together each night. We are currently working on a book that is letters to the princess. I read the letter from God and the scripture and then she reads the prayer. Great time together and no boys allowed.

  25. Candy Ruess December 1st, 2009 12:13 pm

With 4 daughters at home it’s difficult to think of just ONE favorite mother/daughter memory, so I guess I’ll just focus on my tween. My favorite memory of 2009 with my precious Bethany is sitting next to her at the Nashville Secret Keepers event and sharing with each other the things we don’t particularly like about ourselves. I had the opportunity to assure her that God created her perfectly just the way she is and that He loves her very much. We got to say things to each other that night that we’ve never had the chance to share before and it brought us so much closer.

Thank you for giving me that opportunity by presenting your awesome presentation.

  26. Leslie December 1st, 2009 12:15 pm

I have two daughters - ages 9 & 7. I enjoy just hanging out with my girls and sharing stories and talking. Helping them learn to ride on two wheeled bikes over the summer is an awesome memory as was our mother/daughter breakfast at our home with muffins, juice, some special friends, and making beaded jewelry.

  27. cindy sandberg December 1st, 2009 12:18 pm

I have 4 daughters, and enjoy everyday moments with all of them. This year two of my girls are attending the Christmas Ball at their Jr. High school. We went shopping for dresses, and it was not only a fun mother/daughter time of shopping and trying on and oohing and aahing, but also a time to work together to pick dresses that were “appropriate”,and discuss why several of them were not!

  28. Lisa December 1st, 2009 12:30 pm

Thank you! What a fun outfit! You help me navigate the current fashion trends with what is appropriate for my little fashionista!

  29. Britt Hawks December 1st, 2009 12:39 pm

I have two girls with my husband and he brought 2 girls from a previous marriage with him. I love all four of these girls with all my heart and I had to deal with my first teen issue a few weeks ago. My oldest step daughter who will be 12 next week, received the gift that we women dread!!! She was a little freaked out so I took her on a “Welcome to Womanhood” day out. We shopped and talked and laughed and had the most precious moment that I have ever had with her. God really blessed her and me with a gift that got us both through a stressful time. God is so good!!!!

  30. Lisa Scales December 1st, 2009 12:41 pm

Very Cute outfit…my favorite mother daughter event was one of the dates from 1st Date book where we went shopping and used your guide in the book of what was Godly and what was not (all backed up with scripture!! ) The guide really made it real for my daughter. I especially loved the one about dressing to look like the beautiful girl that God made you. Because I seem to hear a lot these days “I don’t want to be too girly or too dressed up”!! We had a great time and now sometimes my daughter even says “Mom, I think you need to put something under that shirt…it’s too low :-). Thanks a lot Dannah!!

  31. Laura December 1st, 2009 12:53 pm

My absolute favorite memory with my 10 year old daughter was our first ‘tea party’ together from your mother/daughter date book! I took her to my favorite coffee shop and had the back room set up with candles, an antique teapot from a friend, petit fours, and a pretty piece of fabric for the table. We pinned silk flowers to our shirts and wore old lace gloves from a thrift shop. The highlight of the date was giving her a beautiful china teacup that my mother-in-law wanted to pass on to her. We always have fun when we are together but this time was so special - I know we will both treasure it forever…

  32. Wynne December 1st, 2009 12:54 pm

My daughter, Megan and I enjoyed all of our dates as she learned what it meant to be a secret keeper girl. My absolute favorite moment, though, was when my husband was able to join in on date night. Megan was beaming as she heard the praise from her Papa about the amazing, Godly young woman that she is becoming and the hope that lies ahead. She is sold out for Jesus, and I know your books have defused a lot of arguments when she sees other young ladies not dressed appropriately. Thank you for your ministry. Keep it up!

  33. Lucinda Peterson December 1st, 2009 1:13 pm

My daughter would love this outfit under the tree to open as a surprise! She loved attending the SKG tour. It has really made her think about modest clothing, though she really looks at others clothing now even more. Thank you so much for giving us another special time to add to our memories.

  34. tanya December 1st, 2009 1:18 pm

I have three girls ages 12,10,8 and this past weekend we all had a blast making no sew blankets for the first time. The girls had fun picking out the print, cutting the fringes and tying together their masterpiece. what a great time we all had together creating, listening to Christmas music and talking. I love those times with my girls to connect with them and they enjoy the time too.

  35. Jennifer Jones December 1st, 2009 1:51 pm

    Dannah,
I have so many wonderful memories with my daughter from this last year…thanks to you and your “8 great dates for you and your daughter” book. But by far, my best memory was the least “jazzy” date. It was the one where we get away and spend some quiet time with God. We went to McDonalds and each got an icecream “blast” and then took a blanket out to a pretty spot under some big trees on some land my parents own. We layed there and giggled and prayed and held hands and as the sun began to go down, we lay there looking up at the stars popping out–in quiet peacefulness. It was almost as if we could sense God’s presence there with us. Even more special…when we got home, my 8 year old daughter wrote a post on HER blog about our dates…and when I read it, I cried. It’s one thing for ME, the adult, the mom to be getting so much from these experiences, but when she wrote this:

God has ben very good in my life but this time was the best evrer becase I had a date with my very own mom some pepole may think it’s werd but i don’t think that mom and I had the best time ever and at the same time we got more time with god wich was a blessing nothing coud compair to that good date i know that was short but i gotta run see ya

(she typed it herself). Anyway, I realized that THIS is making a difference in BOTH of our lives! Majorly!
She has also written about several of our other dates which I just know you would find completely entertaining and interesting! She is such an amazing little girl…who CERTAINLY knows how to make me want to pull my hair out sometimes, but who has a heart for Jesus that shines like the SUN!

So…that is my favorite memory! I will treasure it always!

  36. Joan Myers December 1st, 2009 1:53 pm

Hi we are so thankful for your ministry. I have one daughter who is 9 years old almost 10. There are so many wonderful memories wtih her and we are going through your Secret Keeper Girl Bible Study book and enjoying our dates immensely. I don’t have one particular memory but one thing that just happened this past Sunday. Jessica wanted to wear something to church but couldn’t find it (maybe because she puts her clothes under her bed and dressers instead of hanging them up) and was very frustrated. I found her an outfit and she put it on reluctantly she said she looked like a dork. I didn’t think so but we had had our arguement already - well I went to finish getting ready for church and went to check on her and she was changing again she had found what she wanted but in the process really disobeyed. I lost it - she lost it and my son was so glad he is a boy. We finally did not go to church because neither of us wanted to worship and we sat on the couch with the Bible and started reading together Psalms 139 and discussed it and got calmed down and knew God was back in control. For me it was such a precious time to look to God’s Word for our answer and not just what I thought or what she thought - she was amazed to at Psalms 139 where God knows us so well and cares so much about us. What what a horrible start to the day turned out to be such a blessing.

I have SO many wonderful memories with my girls….but I would say the one that really sticks in my head is the following. I was at the local Goodwill store with my girls (7 and 11) and we where picking up 100 vases. We sure had a cart full. It was just after Halloween and my youngest daughter found this magic wand she really wanted….well she did not need it….it was a want but they where being so helpful with the vases and it was only 50 cents on clearance so I said OK. We are standing in line and some ladies in their upper 60’s lower 70’s where behind us in line. They commented on the number of vases and asked why we had them. My youngest daughter started up right away (she LOVES to talk) and told them how we where going to pain the vases with her Brownie Troop at Hales Corners Lutheran Elementary School and then place slik flowers in them and give them away to the people in the “old age” home that we are going to visit. She also commented on how we would be telling the story of Jesus Birth and singing too. The ladies just laughed and then asked my daughter if she was a princess for Halloween (seeing her with the wand). She told of the Princess costume her Dad made her for Halloween and then she said it….”Do you know you are both Princesses too”….the ladies laughed and said “Oh NO we are too old to be princesses”….then my daughter told them how we are ALL Princesses in God. The ladies really did not say much. Of course my daughter went on and on about how wonderful it is that we are all Princesses in God….she said even my sister who does not like Princesses as she is into sports is a Princess of God. It was time to check out and I let the ladies go before us whipping the tears in my eyes from witnessing such a wonderful momment with my girls. It was then our turn to check out and as we where unloading our vases the ladies came back to us and told my daughter THANK YOU for what you told us today. We where really feeling OLD and out of sorts and EVERY thought about being PRincesses of God. You had added an extra spring to our step today. They then commented to me how blessed I was to have my two wonderful girls….and I said “I sure am…..they are a wonderful gift from God to me”. This is my specail momment. I hope it is a winner as I know my daugher would LOVE to win this outfit and would wear it with pride…..of course telling everyone that will listen about Secret Keeper Girls. God’s Blessings.

i think the a memory that really has taught me alot from my 9 yrs old was when we attended the SKG tour in Alexandria, Louisiana. because i have 3 girls, its hard to divide my time. but i was able to bring my oldest daugter with me and we were able to go out and eat afterwards and have a great time talking! i have noticed that when she shops for clothes now and even getting ready for school, she will put leggings under her skirts. its make me proud of her to know that she is now self-caugtious!! thanks for all you do!!

  39. Jill Hackman December 1st, 2009 3:31 pm

Favorite mom/daughter moment? Being able to open dialogue with my 9 year old about what a young Christian woman should be striving for, no matter what viewpoint is being pushed at them from a secular world. After attending State College’s SKG event a few months ago, we now both know how to navigate the tricky fashion world.

  40. Sarah Fitzgerald December 1st, 2009 3:32 pm

What a cute outfit! My favorite times with my daughter are bed times. I go in and sit by her bed while she says her prayers and we talk about things going on in her life. We also sometimes read and the last month we have been reading the book “Little Women”.

  41. Juscinda Matlin December 1st, 2009 4:07 pm

I think the best memory I had with my 10 year old daughter, Marisa was in July, 2009. We took our first ever family vacation and went to see family in Delaware! We surprised Marisa with a 1 week early 10 birthday gift by taking her on a dolphin watching tour! She just cried and cried and kept thanking us for giving her such a special birthday gift! She never and we never expected to do such a trip ever and God truly blessed us with lots of dolphins and pictures as well as great memories to last a lifetime. We really don’t know if or when we will ever get to take another vacation, but we will never forget the 4 day vacation with lots of adventures we took in July of 2009.

  42. Kimberly Sublett December 1st, 2009 5:03 pm

My mom treated my daughters(ages 11 and 8) and myself to a Girls’ Sleepover weekend in NYC in May of 2009. We made many memories that weekend! We spent the night with my mom’s best-highschool-girlfriend (and her granddaughters). Three generations of mothers and daughters had a true American Girl Slumber Party! Then we headed into the city the next day to visit The American Girl Place. Our dolls were treated to the beauty parlor, we had a girlie-brunch, met an American Girl author and, of course, we shopped! That weekend was one to remember! :-)

  43. Stephanie Landis December 1st, 2009 5:12 pm

My favorite Mother/Daughter memory just occurred yesterday. We had 5 of my daughter’s friends and their moms come over for breakfast. The girls came in their pjs and the moms all brought yummy breakfast treats to share. Everyone had such a good time, and we finished with our Best Friend, Jesus Bible study.

  44. Laine Seibel December 1st, 2009 8:59 pm

Thanks for this fun giveaway! As my 2 girls get older, I am loving being able to talk with them about all kinds of topics - serious to silly. The SKG event in State College is one of my favorite mom/daughter memories of the year - we had so much fun and then we came home and talked about all that we had heard and learned together until late at night - it was great!

  45. Jennifer December 1st, 2009 9:19 pm

My most recent favorite moment with my oldest daughter was her 10th birthday party. We went to a hotel with her best friend and had a spa party. We pampered the girls and played some fun games. We laughed alot and had a great time being silly.

  46. Kristi December 1st, 2009 9:26 pm

Earlier this month, my 10 year old told me her favorite place to be is: HOME!!! I love it!

  47. Tami December 1st, 2009 9:36 pm

A special memory for my daughter and I was one of the dates in the SKG series - we had such blast picking out and trying on a million outfits that passed the test at a second hand store. We took pictures and accidently sat on the camera (and broke the lens but we were laughing too much to mind). We even were able to witness about how God honors our daughter’s purity with the store owner. It was a special day!

  48. Caroline December 1st, 2009 9:43 pm

My girls would love this outfit!

  49. Crystal December 1st, 2009 10:12 pm

I took my 8 year old daughter a Secret Keeper Event last May. It was a 2 hour drive for us, so we made it a weekend event. We went out to eat before SKG, stayed in a hotel with a swimming pool and went shopping where ever she wanted to go the next day. It was just a weekend for us. The greatest thing has been that our prayer life as a mother/daughter has been stregthened because of what our weekend at SKG. She will call me into her bedroom at night to pray over her for specific concerns, even after family devotions & prayer. Thank you for providing this ministry.

  50. Natalie McDonald December 1st, 2009 10:15 pm

My favorite mother/daughter moment this year was when the SKG tour came to Alexandria, Louisiana. I really enjoyed participating with my daughter, who just turned 12 in October. I agree that I’m all set with the clothes at Hot Topic and product lines like Skelanimals and would prefer something more positive for my daughter to dress in. Thanks for all you do!

  51. Frances December 1st, 2009 10:18 pm

My daughter is 11 years old, the youngest of 3. She is the comedian of the family. She has a special way of making everyone laugh. She can make her 19 yr old brother smile when no one else can. She can make her 16 yr old sister happy when she is in a mood. She loves animals, her family, and most of all she loves the Lord.

  52. Verlyn Maldonado December 1st, 2009 10:53 pm

My 11 year old recently auditioned for a commercial, and they required her to be “fashionably dressed” with no jeans, t-shirts, or sneakers. Well, my daughter loves jeans, t-shirts and sneakers! So, my challenge was to get her a nice fashionable outfit that she and I both liked! We had a blast going from store to store picking out various outfits and trying them on. Since she is not one to dress up too often she was definitely outside her box, but I saw her glowing with satisfaction as she saw how pretty she truly is. This was the first part of one of our favorite times together this year. The second part was when she got to participate in a photo shoot with her twenty-something cousins doing her hair and (modest) make up and photos. Getting so much attention from her family was really a boost to her self-confidence. As a mother I really enjoyed seeing her feel good about herself, and she really enjoyed the positive attention and love from her family. She also realized that I wasn’t just saying she’s pretty cuz I’m her Mom, but when others said it to, she accepted what I was saying and enjoyed feeling good about herself as well.

  53. Joanne Howard December 1st, 2009 11:19 pm

I loved the tour, could only get her one book and she has it by her bed. Our family has been through a lot this year and so she, her brother and my husband have all gotten a bit clingy and all demand my attention. When I do manage to get in a mother-daughter escape she is so sweet and happy no matter if we aren’t going anywhere special.

I have had so many special memories with my four daughters this year that it is hard to pick. My youngest daughter Emma and I had a special Mommy /Daughter night when we attended the SKG in San Antonio. We had a fabu time and then went for ice cream afterwards with our friends who went too!! Emma still talks about what she learned and occasionally points out girls who “need Jesus” as she says when we see someone dressed inappropriately. I am thankful for her modesty and awesome fashion sense at the same time!!!

My favorite mother/daughter moment of 2009 would have to be getting up at 3:45 a.m. to go Black Friday shopping with my daughter. It has become a yearly tradition for us and a fun time to talk, shop, and bond. It is time for just the 2 of us without younger brother and sister interrupting.

My daughter, Brooke, and I went to the Revolve Tour in Baltimore this year. Not only did we adopt a child together, but she feel in love with Britt Nicole and listens to her music constantly! I just LOVE that she loves her! With the music in our world today (and our entire family are real music lovers), what better message to repeat over and over - God’s Love!

My favorite mother daughter experience in 2009 was most definitely the night we attend the Secret Keeper Girl Tour in Tulsa. I am 34 and my mom joined me and my oldest 2 girls at this event. It was our 1st time and we had an amazing time! My mom kept telling us “I had that outfit” during the fashion show and my girls got the biggest kick out of that! I learned things about my girls that I didn’t even know bothered them and it really opened my eyes to their needs and how to pray for them better. They both are still doing the clothes check Mountains/Valley Criss cross applesause and raise and praise check before we can think about buying clothes now! It was so amazing and wonderful for them to see the positive side of dressing pretty and to learn that it is ok to be different and girsl do it every day! They realized that being different is God’s way of showing them how special they are to Him. That they are unique and wonderfully made. Thanks for all the fabulous things you are doing for our girls and helping us teach them the Godly way of life. Sometimes it is better coming from another girl and not just “mom”. :) God bless you and keep you all!

One of my most special moments of 2009 with my daughter was the slumber party we had together. Just the two of us, we were so happy and anticipating it for a week. We started off with a tea party and cut out pictures from the magazines to identify modest and immodest dressing. We read from the Bible together and shared so much love, she enjoys expressing herself in words, dance and singing. We had a pillow fight, we decorated our pillows with words of what true friendship means to us. We snuggled together before going to bed. She talked about it for weeks and looked forward to our next SKG date! She is such a bright light in our world and we thank God everyday for the 9 wonderful years of choosing us to be her parents. What Blessing it was to experience your Tour…Please keep up your awesome ministry!!

I love that my 12 year old girl dresses modestly. We have a wonderful relationship. Her and I go on dates often, even if it is to walk the mall and window shop and comment on the clothes. I love your web site , I am very thankful for your ministry! God Bless!

The SKG concert at Central in College Station FOR SURE!!!!! Callie & I had a blast!!!!!!!

  61. Tammy Sizemore December 2nd, 2009 7:55 pm

The most precious time I had with my daughter in 2009 was being able to share the Nashville, TN SKG event with my 9 year old daughter, Allyson. We even went to the mall and purchased china teacups. To top it all off was the ability to bring the event to Pike County, Kentucky where she was able to share the experience with her friends and their mother. We still talk about the events and she loves the fiction books.

I love what you’re doing Dannah!! What a blessing you are to all the mothers and daughters.

    Love & Prayers,

    Tammy Sizemore

One of the best memories with my daughter in 2009 was a MOM and ME Tea Party. We made special biscuits and tea. We decorated the table with china and candles. We put on a relaxing CD and talked “girl talk”. We took turns saying positive things about one another and reading scripture on how beautiful we are in God’s eyes. Oh yeah, we even dressed up in formal dresses. It was a great time for my daughter and a treasured time for me!

By far, the greatest moment for Olivia and I was attending the PennDel Women’s Conference together. We bonded in a unique way while worshipping together. We both poured ourselves out to God and he drew us closer together.

My favorite moments with my daughter are when I am putting her to bed and she shares her thoughts and feelings with me.

  65. Pamela December 3rd, 2009 12:44 am

Every day is filled with favorite moments with my 11-year old daughter. One of my favorites of the year, though, truly, was a road trip my daughter and I took together to Brunswick, GA for the SKG tour a few weeks ago. I know many other Moms have said the same thing; however, that week-end in its entirety symbolized a “passage of life” for my daughter in so many ways…and I am honored to have been a part of it with her.

A couple of days before the event, by special invitation, I invited my daughter to a girls’ getaway week-end with me. Thankfully, she said “yes,” because I had already packed our suitcases as part of the surprise!

We started with a neighborhood garage sale on Saturday morning, which was a failure! So, we closed the sale a few hours early, got in the car, and started our journey north…excitement filling the air!

Unbeknownst to her, I started about 10 days earlier making the preparations for the trip, which included doing my homework to prepare to share “Passport to Purity” with her along the way. It was a gentle and loving way to share God’s Word and wisdom about the road map pertaining to “growing up” topics. Our stops during the trip included lessons/projects from the program and allowed for round-trip heartfelt discussions.

“Passport to Purity” suggests that the parent select a special and fun event to share with the child as part of the adventure…and I chose the SKG event to be that for us! The SKG program was both “special” and “fun”…and so much more! We could feel the love in the room during the event…love for God, love between mothers and daughters, love for the SKG program, and God’s love for each one of us! Leaving the event, I remember thinking that it had felt as if we had been in the presence of angels!

After the event, my daughter and I drove to our hotel, ordered pizza in, and read our newly-purchased SKG books until our heavy eyelids could not stay open anymore. After enjoying a hot breakfast together the following morning, we started our journey home, singing, laughing, and completing my daughter’s “Passport to Purity” adventure. When we arrived in Central Florida, I presented my daughter with a silver heart bracelet as a symbol of her signed purity pledge and a memento of her passage into maturity.

God’s perfect timing was the “icing on the cake”, for shortly after arriving home, my daughter started her period for the first time! What a glorious way to end the week-end and to tie all of the important moments of the week-end together!

Having two preteen girls in the house makes for so many wonderful memories! As a single mom, I was very fortunate this year to travel with my parents, all 5 of my siblings with their families, and my two daughters to Alaska. I had the most fun in just watching them experience new things - first sighting of a whale, ziplining, white water rafting, traveling by train and ship. But there was a moment on the ship when my daughters and I along with my mother were standing together outside to watch as the ship entered Glacier Bay that was amazing as we were all filled with the awesomeness of God’s creation.

It was fun reliving that moment in my own mind. THanks for having us slow down and think about these things!

My daughters (now ages 10 and 7.5) and I started having “Girls Days” when they were 4 and 2. We polish our nails, go to the library, out to lunch, or shopping. Since they were little I have always taken them into the fitting room with me and purposely tried on inappropriate outfits. I’d ask them to point out why. Attending the Tulsa SKG Tour was such an awesome way to reinforce those lessons. It was great to see that so many moms and daughters feel the same way. Thank you for you wonderful ministry.

I have enjoyed reading your book and hope to attend a conference when you come to Georgia! One memory from this year I thought you would enjoy is when I went shopping at Old Navy with my 15 and 9 year old daughters to support your Thank you day! I hope it was a success. It was a great way to talk to my daughters about how they are different and special, and they can reflect that in how they chose to dress. Thanks so much!

My daughter would absolutely love this outfit!!!! Thanks for all you do for our young girls. SKG ROCKS!!!

It’s so great to hear your comments, SKG moms! Keep them coming. We have a few more days until we draw a winner and post another outfit to giveaway!

The memories that pop out in my mind are those
little bits of conversation that my 11yr. old and
I have been able to have about life changes - physical,
emotional, social and spiritual. These little bits of time over the year have really added up to bring us closer.
And I will always remember when she said to me - in a grown up encouraging way rather than a little girl way - “Mom, you’re the best! I love you!”

My daughter and I went to go see No Doubt Gwen Stefani in concert. It was a blast. It reminded me of how I took my mom to see Cyndi Lauper. We had dinner and danced the night away. It was great to enjoy my daughter like a friend that night.

My favorite mother-daughter time was attending “You & Your Girl” a few months ago. Vicki Courtney’s messages were incredible. We also loved the fashion show that host church (Kingsland Baptist) did. Very cute & modest outfits jazzed up with lots of accessories. Hilarious moms who showed us “what not to wear” if you want to be modest. I hope you’re coming to Houston area soon, Dannah. We would love to attend a SKG conference!

  75. Sheila December 4th, 2009 7:46 pm

    Love the outfit!
Just today, I got to spend some alone time with my daughter. We played Go Fish and read a little bit of a book together. It was so nice just hanging out with her!

  76. Shelby December 5th, 2009 10:11 am

Once a month or so, my daughter and I have a “girl day” just for us to spend together. On those days I let her write a list of places she wants to go - the mall, out to eat, the museum. Our favorite girl day was the SKG conference. She told all of her friends it was like a fashion show. The message was very powerful and stressed the importance of modesty. The conference was about three months ago but the message is still in her heart and on her mind. Just this week, my daughter asked me, “Remember how long they said our necks would have to be if we were made like Barbie? That’s so funny!”

  77. alma December 7th, 2009 10:06 am

i like the outfit as well - i’m just writing to say that i’ve been blessed with Secret Keeper Girl and i’m very grateful that God has chosen this as your destiny to help others like me, equip and prepare our young daughters. because of your zeal you have helped me see broader and helped me to want to be a better mother towards my child and install great values and morals into her life. does it always work? no, but i keep moving forward because God has called all of us to be great for His Kingdom!

i remember the greatest time my daughter and i had was at one of your conferences. she didn’t want to go and was even embarrassed to walk in. but when she witnessed to see the fun everyone was having and the fashion show and the lights and praise, she gradually settled in a bit… she had me buy her about 6 books that night, a shirt and a pin. lastly, her face lit up when dannah and suzy personally signed her book. i know that it stirred up something precious in her spirit.

thank you all because you go above and beyond to teach and equip us mothers who didn’t know where to begin, yet attending your event was a stepping stone into our destiny for our children.

    forever grateful,

    alma
