An Encore Performance In Bowie, MD

Category: SKG Events

Posted by Melanie Cherland, from the Secret Keeper Girl Tour Team This weekend was my very first visit to the state of Maryland, as well as our very second Secret Keeper Girl LIVE: Pajama Party Tour event. It was also the second time Secret Keeper Girl has appeared at Cornerstone Church in Bowie! Many moms and daughters returned, thinking they knew what to expect, and found themselves unexpectedly in a sling shot blasting zone, or bopping along to the Brady Bunch theme song. They also found themselves curled up in each others arms sharing and praying against insecurities and lies they had been believing. The absolute best part of the night was not the confetti cannons (surprisingly), or the fashion shows (shockingly) or even prizes being slung into the back of the sanctuary! It was seeing TWO DOZEN girls decide to let God be the King of their life! I am so awed to have been a part of so many girls falling in love with Christ- Hallelujah!! Be sure to check out the sweet salvation tears in one of the photos below.

Day #21: Praise God For Your Daughter’s Friends

Category: Tips for Moms

By Dannah Gresh

“He who walks with the wise grows wise.”

Proverbs 13:20

girltalk.jpegA favorite verse from our Secret Keeper Girl event (the one we just retired, that is) would be Proverbs 13:20. A girls friendships are so critical to how she lives. One survey of college girls said nothing influences what they wear more than their friends. (Good grief!) You don’t have to look hard to see how your daughter’s friendships mold her. So, let’s get a little shout out going up to the One who is a Friend like no other. Let’s praise God for her friendships in the hopes that he will inhabit them (because, remember, that’s what he promises when we praise). “God, I praise you for my daughter’s friendship with _______ because I can see that they encourage each other to walk with you.” Especially lean into finding things to praise for any friendships you’re discouraged about. For example, “God, I am certain this isn’t a good friendship for my daughter, but I praise you for being the one to show her that truth.” God can intervene. Remember, to keep praying for your “anything!”

Day #20: Praise God For Your Daughter’s Spiritual Gifts

Category: Tips for Moms

By Dannah Gresh

“But to each one is given the manifestation of the spirit for the common good.”

I Corinthians 12:7

lexiasmatchgirl.jpg

My Lexi is a thespian. (That’s her above playing The Little Match Girl.) She has a beautiful voice and loves acting. I love it, too, because her spiritual gifts come alive when she uses her talents. (One of those is evangelism. She is an amazing light for Christ in the theater world!) I think that often our “talents” (teaching, singing, gymnastics, kickball, cooking) make room for and showcase our spiritual gifts (evangelism, encouragement, mercy, hospitality). Make no mistake about this: both you and your daughter, if you have embraced Jesus as your Savior, have been endowed with special spiritual gifting through the Spirit of God for the good of the body of Christ. Look for what those spiritual gifts are if you aren’t sure. (I write about this at length in a book for women called Five Little Questions That Reveal The Life God Designed For You if this is new to you.) Let’s spend today praising God for your daughter’s spiritual gifts (and perhaps the talents that showcase them).

Day #19: Praise God For Your Daughter’s Health

Category: Tips for Moms

By Dannah Gresh

“…and by his wounds we are healed.”

Isaiah 53:5b

christ-nail-hand.jpeg

I believe that Jesus is our healer. The scripture is full of his promises to heal us, and so much of his earthly life was spent doing miraculous acts of healing. After that, he promised that through our faith in him, you and I would do “even greater things.” I wonder if any of you have daughter’s who face illness? Let’s lean in to pray for them today. Let’s do so by praising God with the prophecy from Isaiah. “I praise you, Lord. By your wounds, my daughter is healed.” If your heart is full of other words, let them flow. If not, then just repeat these words again and again until you heart floods with assurance. If your daughter is sick, please leave a comment today so that we can pray for her by name! I’m looking forward to a slower week this week than I’ve had in a while, and I hope to print these names and take a long walk with my dog and cover them one by one, name by name. Tell your friends whose daughter’s are sick and let us create a national concert of prayer for healing of our girls!

Day #18: Praise God For Your Daughter’s Future Husband

Category: Tips for Moms

By Dannah Gresh

“She brings [her husband] good and not harm all the days of her life.”

Proverbs 31:12

I have to tell you that one of my most favorite honors this year, was interviewing Moms In Touch International founder, Fern Nichols for Six Ways To Keep The Little In Your Girl. She inspires me so very much to pray. (I am a member of a Moms In Touch group at Grace Prep.) As we communicated, I learned that she prioritized prayer for her children’s spouses from a very early age. Today they are married to godly men and women. The verse above really strikes me. A wife is to do her husband good “all the days of her life.” That means when she’s 30 and married with kids. Or thirteen and protecting her purity. Or, I guess, even 8 and staying away from the boy-crazy train! (Let me promise that one leads to no where fast.) Let’s lean in to praying for your daughter’s future husband today, shall we?

Peer Pressure and Pajamas

Category: SKG Events

Posted by Melanie Cherland, SKG Cast Member Wow! I just got back from the WORLD PREMIER of Secret Keeper Girl LIVE: The Pajama Party Tour! This Tuesday Nittany Christian School graciously hosted us as we unveiled some exciting new surprises like the world’s largest sling shot! Hilarious Aunt Zelde! And guest appearances by the likes of Jane Jetson, Claire Huxtable and more! We even spotted some celebrities without their makeup!

We also got the incredible opportunity to talk to girls and moms (and a surprising number of dads) about feeling pressure from friends, and what God’s word has to say about the labels that we put on ourselves. Since the event was held in our hometown we had the privilege of having ALL of our cast members on stage during this event! It was amazing to hear the response when these girls realized that the images they see in the magazines look VERY different than the actual celebrities.

And if that wasn’t enough, the icing on the cake for me was seeing one very special girl come up to the front and pray that God would be her father and her King- now she’s a real, live princess!!

Day #17: Praise God For Your Daughter’s Beauty

Category: Tips for Moms

By Dannah Gresh

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.”

Psalm 139:13

dsc_36921.jpg

I think my girls are BEAUUUUUTIFUL! But they don’t always feel that way. Isn’t it the burden of every woman to face the assault of the culture as she seeks to embrace God’s Truth that she is fearfully and wonderfully made? It’s one of the core topics in my  upcoming release, Six Ways To Keep The Little In Your Girl. One of the things I strongly suggest is that you attack this one with prayer. In fact, in the book I wrote some Truth for you to pray based on Psalm 139 and other scripture passages. (I just love praying scripture over my girls. I believe there is just an extra punch in the power of it when what come through my mouth and heart is really from the mouth and heart of God!) So, today let’s go on the offensive, moms! Let’s praise God that our girls are fearfully and wonderfully made and let’s ask him for the help we need to daily help their hearts to believe it. P.S. Remember to keep asking for your anything!

Day #16: Praise God For Your Daughter’s Teacher

Category: Tips for Moms

By Dannah Gresh

“…hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that [she] can encourage others with sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it.”

Titus 1:9

teacher-1.jpeg

Today, I think it’d be a good day to praise God for your daughter’s classroom. (Even if, you are concerned about her.) Here’s the thing: each day our children are being taught what they believe, and the role models who are in their lives are major shapers of that thinking. Our verse today offers us encouragement to hold firmly to the truth of the message of God that has been taught to us, and to be able to oppose those who refute it. There’s nothing more important than learning to discern right messages from wrong messages. Depending on the type of schooling you have chosen, your daughter is in a place where the message of Truth is being support or possibly torn down, and she needs to defend it. Either way, let’s praise God for her opportunity to know and defend Truth in the classroom. If YOU are your daughter’s teacher, you can praise God for the opportunity to homeschool her. And, do me a favor…give yourself a manicure or take a bubble bath today and enjoy the praise I’m pouring your way!If YOU send your daughter to Christian school, like I do, take time today to really praise God for each of her teachers. Maybe even send them a note. (Often these teachers take smaller salaries to serve the Lord in their schools.)If YOU send your daughter to public school, praise God that you can anchor her in truth and spend a lot of time asking him to give her boldness.

Day #15: Praise God For The Day Your Daughter Was Born

Category: Tips for Moms

By Dannah Gresh

“Children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward.”

Psalm 127:3

baby-girl-peters.jpeg

Children are no longer considered a great reward. The culture often presses us to have fewer and live our lives centered around our professional dreams as opposed to our home. At an alarming rate, teens are no longer desiring to become moms one day. They dread it. Let’s attack this with some praise today, girls! Let’s start with some specific praise about the day your daughter was born. In fact, why not share a little bit of your prayer time with her today…letting her see how grateful to God you are for her existence. Would you mind ending your prayer time by doing some battle for these teen girls who no longer desire to be moms. Let’s ask God to give them a holy passion for the reward yet to come from their womb!

Day #14: Praise the Lord For Secret Keeper Girl

Category: Tips for Moms

By Dannah Gresh

“But thou art holy, and inhabitest the praises of Israel.” Psalm 22:3

woman-worshipping.jpeg

God lives in our praise. That’s what the Psalm above tells us. So for the next seven days—that’s right, we’re on to week #3), I’d like to invite you to step up the 30 Days Of Praying For Your Daughter but ushering God’s presence in to her life with praise. I’m going to be a little selfish today. I hope you’ve come to see the Secret Keeper Girl resources as a trusted friend as you seek to raise godly girls. With that said, today is a really special day for us at Secret Keeper Girl: we’re launching our all-new touring event called Secret Keeper Girl LIVE: The Pajama Party Tour. To say we are stretched thin as a team is an understatement. We’re tired and our budget has run thin, but we are certain that this new element to our ministry will bless little girls and their moms. (Last year 600 little girls came to know Christ at our live event.) Would you mind just taking a moment today to praise God for Secret Keeper Girl and any other ministries, resources, or tools that God has given you to raise a godly little girl?
